SEPTEMBER 2023

The RIVER WATCHERS (formerly referred to as Canoe Play) cast and creative team is finalized and rehearsals begin! Performances will be October 19-22 and 26-29 in a 14-seat canoe in Newtown Creek. Audience members will be paddling along with the performers on board. Tickets sold out in less than 24 hours, but a waitlist is going. 

RIVER WATCHERS is presented in association with The Motor Company and the North Brooklyn Community Boathouse. Co-created by Dina Vovsi, Dan Caffrey, and Jens Rasmussen, written by Dan Caffrey, directed by Dina Vovsi, and performed by Jens Rasmussen and Amanda Bruton. Jens Rasmussen is our canoe consultant, Emma Sonricker is our stage manager, Kelvin Pater is our scenic designer, Lauren Matrka is our graphic designer, and Emily Owens is our press rep. 

Returning to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts as part of the directing faculty at Playwrights Horizons Theater School to teach four sections of Rehearsal Process: Directing the Actor and one section of Making Theater II. 

JULY 2023

Joining the directing team for Sarah Gancher’s Eugene Onegin: a bluegrass musical at The Orchard Project’s 2023 Summer Arts Festival in Saratoga Springs, NY. 

Received a Puffin Foundation Annual Artist Grant for Canoe Play, which is in pre-production with The Motor Company and collaborators Dan Caffrey and Jens Rasmussen.

MAY-JUNE 2023

A 29-hour workshop and public staged reading of The Blue Parts at Working Theater with playwright and co-creator Liba Vaynberg, performers Kate Abbruzzese, Savidu Geevaratne, and Zuzanna Szadkowski, dramaturg Amrita Ramanan, and stage manager Emily Roth, with Siarra Donna reading stage directions. 

A staged reading of Ursa Major by Xandra Nur Clark as part of The Civilians’ R&D Group Findings Series, featuring performers Becca Blackwell, Sagan Chen, Zoë Geltman, Merritt Janson, Pauli Pontrelli, and Stacey Raymond; and singers Iryna Kit, Natalie Oshukany, and Ulana Pryjmak; with Sarah Alice Shull reading stage directions. 

A presentation of The Inspiration Project, a culminating piece in collaboration with JASA NORC Coney Island and Brookyn Arts Council’s SU-CASA Program, featuring program participants and professional actors Kimberly Chatterjee, Ethan Dubin, and Maia Karo.

My project Canoe Play, a site-specific, journey-based play created in collaboration with the North Brooklyn Community Boathouse, receives 2023 Brooklyn Arts Fund and Local Arts Support Grants from the Brooklyn Arts Council.

PONYTAIL wraps filming and post-production begins.

In pre-production for PONYTAIL, a comedic short film I wrote about two people who work in the Starbucks in a Target, which will film in early April.

My 2022 Brooklyn Arts Council SU-CASA Residency begins – it has been incredible to witness and learn about the stories of the thoughtful and generous Greenpoint community members at Pete McGuinness Senior Center. There will be a final performance in June.

I’m thrilled to receive a 2022 Brooklyn Arts Council SU-CASA Residency. I’ll be developing a play about the complexity of love with Greenpoint community members at Pete McGuinness Senior Center.

Delighted to be back in the (Zoom) room with playwright Liba Vaynberg, collaborating on our commission for Working Theater’s 5 Boroughs 1 City Initiative by resuming our work with the Brighton Beach community in a story circle co-hosted by the Brooklyn Public Library on January 27. We will be interviewing members of the community throughout 2022. 

SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2021

EXITS launches on September 30 as both a self-guided soundwalk and a site-specific live experience in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Along with co-creators Rachel Gita Karp, Deneen Reynolds-Knott, and Emerie Snyder, it’s been a pleasure to collaborate with playwright Ran Xia and voice performers Ashley Nicole Baptiste, J. Stephen Brantley, Ollie Corchado, Vince Ryne, Lipica Shah, and Joel Stigliano on the Greenlight Bookstore component of the soundwalk, A View from the Shelves

SHOW ME, a 12-minute site-responsive audio installation I created and directed for The Motor Company’s Celebration of New York, is available to experience September 10 – October 3, both as a scannable QR-code at Archestratus Books + Food in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, or on The Motor Company’s website. It’s an ode to food and cooking, and the joy and longing our taste buds and hearts have felt over the past year-and-a-half. 

Rehearsals for David Adjmi’s Marie Antoinette begin on September 20th at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, with performances October 28-30. Production photos to come!

INDIAN SUMMER opens! And it’s the end of my season-long fellowship with Playwrights Horizons. Quite the journey.

I reunite with the understudies of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM for The Pearl Theatre Company’s annual “Understudies Onstage” night: Ross Hamman, Tim Liu, Lindsay Tanner, Amanda Thickpenny, and a newcomer, Whit Leyenberger. It was such a treat to get to revisit Eric Tucker’s staging with this talented group and put my own twist on the transitions in out of our scenes and the ones from Stupid F*cking Bird and The Dingdong.
